Mahashree and Kudumbashree of Kerala

Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Prime Minister of India launched the Kudumbashree Program on 17th May, 1998 in Kerala. Mahashree (like Kudumbashree of Kerala) means different things to different people. For some, it is the Poverty Eradication project of the State government. Some others view it as an exclusive domain of women engaged in social work. For several people, Mahashree is like a blessing; a God-send. It appears as food to the hungry, as medicine to the sick, as a helping hand to the ailing. There are politicians who think Mahashree as a channel to reach the poor. Certain others see it as a platform from where women enter politics. The poverty eradication mission is called Mahashree. In a village setting, a Bachat Gat can be called Mahashree. The ALF and CLF can also be called Mahashree.
